I have 35 years of broadcast industry and university-level teaching experience — specializing in journalism and mass communications. Before teaching, I spent more than 12 years working in television, primarily local TV news. I teach an array of classes for the SJMC, including Writing for Mass Communications, Podcasting, Introduction to Reporting, Intermediate Reporting, Power Producing (for TV news), Media Management, and occasionally teach in our graduate program.

Columbia Chronicles is an episodic podcast providing in-depth coverage of news and issues important to the greater Columbia community. It features the work of students in Smith’s Podcasting and Audio Production course (JOUR 392). In 2021-2022, Smith’s Honors students received an Award of Excellence from the BEA for their PSA Campaign for “Food for Thought,” which tackled issues of food insecurity in the Midlands.
